Timeline - 2016 Terms 1 - 2 Australian Voices and The Happiest Refugee
Weeks 1 - 6 - Discussion of Australian Identity and study of classic Australian texts and writing of own creative piece
Weeks 7-8 - Begin study of The Happiest Refugee CAI 1 - Writing Folio - Creative Response to texts or own story with commentary - see unit
Term 2 - Australian Voices and The Happiest Refugee continued Language Analysis and Persuasive Speech and Exams
Weeks 1 - 3 - Finish The Happiest Refugee and draft comparative essay - CA2 Do Comparative Text Response in Week 3 in double.
Weeks 4-5 - Intro to Language Analysis and prep of persuasive speeches - teach language analysis skills. Students to complete one written language analysis.
Weeks 6 - 7 Students give persuasive talk on topic of own choice. Exam prep. CAI 3 - Oral
Week 8 - Exam - Comparative Text Response The Happiest Refugee and another text printed in the exam?? and short language analysis.
Weeks 9-11 Begin Macbeth. Intro to Shakespeare, familiarisation with summary of story. CAI 2 - Comparative Text Response CAI 3 - Oral - persuasive speech
Term 3Macbeth
Weeks 1 - 8 Complete Macbeth. (Theatre incursion in week 1). CAI 1 Text Response to Macbeth CAI 2 - Creative Response to Macbeth with commentary - Writing Folio CAI 3 - Oral - Macbeth Presentation -we need to decide exactly what. My suggestion is that they do an interpretation of key scene. Gangster Version, Aus Slang Version, etc.
Weeks 9 -10 Begin Bowling for Colombine - revise film techniques.
Term 4 Bowling for Colombine and Exams
Weeks 1 - 5 Complete study of Bowling for Colombine . Key learning outcomes - to revise film techniques and understand how the film uses film techniques to persuade. Depending on time constraints students could write an analysis of the opening of the film and how it persuades.
Weeks 6-7 - Revision including another language analysis.
Week 8 - Exam Text Response - Macbeth and language analysis

Oxford text Analysing and Presenting Argument is useful - at least one copy in Byrne House with WHI - Year 10 leaders may wish to copy sections for the team.
